Introducing the use of unconventional and less noble materials, the cubist and constructivist experiences created the base of the contemporary sculpture. The identity itself of the sculpture was then altered as much in its substance as in its function. Abandoned its commemorative nature, abandoned the exclusive singleness of the sculptural object and introduced the possibility to compose with heterogeneous materials, the sculpture has been more and more proposed as installation, a work composed of several elements coherently set out and often in an interactive way.
Nowadays, broadly speaking, sculpture is for sure the artistic expression the most recurrent and yet, paradoxically, the terms of sculpture and sculptor are less frequently used in the language of contemporary art. “Strutture” presents a selection of artists who operate in the ambiguous territory between sculpture and installation. These artists are able either to recycle materials of the everyday life, to evoke objects and situations with unpredictable elements or to realize constructions at the same time symbolic and functional. The artists participating at the “Strutture” exhibition belong to the present prolific sculpture evolution of which at the same time they amplify the vocabulary and the syntax.
